As part of our participation in the Indiana Choice Scholarships program, ILEARN is the required end-of-the-school-year test students take beginning in third grade.
The Indiana Department of Education will use the ILEARN scores to calculate our school's accountability grade. Also, staff and teachers at BTCS look at the results for signs of student growth and identify weaknesses for improvement efforts.
BTCS participation in the Indiana Choice Scholarships school program, requires an annual IREAD-3 test to second and third grade students to measure reading proficiency. A passing score on IREAD-3 shows that a student is ready to move from "learning to read" to "reading to learn." If a student does not pass, BTCS will provide extra reading instruction both during the school year and during the summer. Students who do not pass will retest in the summer.
NWEA MAP Growth (Measure of Academic Progress) is a computer-adaptive test which helps teachers and parents improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth.
Students in second grade will participate in NWEA MAP Growth testing three times a year, and students in third through sixth grade will test two times a year.
