School-Based Support to help Children Learn to Read through Academic Assessments

Prepare for Testing Success!

  • Make sure your student gets plenty of rest and limit the use of digital devices in the evenings during testing periods.
  • Make sure your student eats a healthy breakfast.
  • Encourage your student to do the best they can and to work with their teacher every day to improve.

Maximizing Student Learning!

NWEA MAP Growth Testing and IXL Diagnostic Screener

IREAD-3

As part of our participation in the Indiana Choice Scholarships program, the ILEARN summative assessment is the required end-of-the-school-year test students take beginning in third grade. In preparation for the ILEARN summative assessment, students in grades 3-6 participate in three ILEARN Checkpoints throughout the beginning and middle of the school year to help equip them to achieve their best scores on the ILEARN summative assessment. The Indiana Department of Education will use the ILEARN summative scores to calculate our school's accountability grade.  Also, staff and teachers at BTCS evaluate student test results for signs of student growth and identify weaknesses for improvement efforts.

IREAD-3

NWEA MAP Growth Testing and IXL Diagnostic Screener

IREAD-3

Students in second and third grade at BTCS participate in the IREAD-3 assessment for the purpose of measuring reading proficiency. A passing score on IREAD-3 shows that a student is ready to move from "learning to read" to "reading to learn." If a student does not pass, BTCS will provide extra reading instruction during the school year and, if necessary, during the summer. Students who do not pass will retest in the summer. Students have two opportunities to pass IREAD-3 in second grade and three additional opportunities to pass IREAD-3 in third grade. Students who do not pass after their fifth and final opportunity will likely be retained unless the student qualifies for a Good Cause Exemption.

NWEA MAP Growth Testing and IXL Diagnostic Screener

The NWEA MAP Growth (Measure of Academic Progress) and the IXL Levelup Diagnostic Screener are computer-adaptive tests that help teachers and parents improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth.

Students in first and second grade participate in NWEA MAP Growth testing three times a year. Students in third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade take the IXL Screener once at the beginning of the school year.
